Biggest Morning Tea Challenge Block 2019: Lily.

Our challenge and block reflect that it is Essendon Quilters thirtieth anniversary year. The Lily that symbolises magnificence, with its star-shaped bloom, represents devotion, pride and beauty, is the flower gifted for the Pearl wedding anniversary. Pearls (cream) grow from a small speck into a treasure and we are teaming this with green as this is the colour for 30 years of marriage as well as an Essendon Quilters colour. These colours are used to raise awareness of Lung, Liver, Lymphoma and Gall Bladder cancers.

The Challenge:

It is a 12 inch finished or 12 and a half unfinished block of a Lily of your choice.

Any technique is acceptable. Ideas include an applique Peace Lily, a machine or hand pieced Carolina Lilly, an English Paper Pieced Lily or a three dimensional Lily of the Valley.

The colours are shades of green and cream and if you like add a touch of a single colour.

Your block or blocks can be handed to the front desk at any meeting however they must be received at the Front desk by the Biggest Morning Tea meetings of May. Please attach your name to the back of your block.

Yes, there are Prizes!

We are going to celebrate our Anniversary year with great prizes.  There will be two participation prizes – one for members that submit their prize at the day meeting and the other to the members at the night meeting. The Participation Prize will be conducted by a random draw and will be a voucher to one of our local quilt shops. Yes, each block you submit increases your chance of winning a Participation prize.

The Viewer’s Choice is a cash prize this year. The winner will be selected by a secret ballot of members attending The Biggest Morning Tea meetings (and so if you go to both you do get to vote twice).  On arrival, you will be given your voting slip. In the event there is a tie, the winner will be selected via a draw.

What happens with the blocks?

The blocks will form part of a raffle quilt and proceeds will go to the Victorian Cancer Council. If there are spare blocks these will support Essendon Quilters activities.

30 Years 30 Blocks

It would be lovely if we could achieve 30 blocks for our 30 years. Even better if we could achieve and big and a smaller quilt. So, please encourage your fellow members to make a block and, or assist others by sharing templates, or assisting with applique or EPP.

Help and Information

If you would like to help others try a new technique or assist with making up the quilt, there will be a Volunteer register at the Front Desk.If you would like help or information please speak to Denise, members of the Committee or email to we will do our best to assist.
