Moonee Valley City Council

Opening Speech

“Good morning and welcome everyone, what a wonderful event we are celebrating today - the bi-annual Essendon Quilters Quilt-In!

Before I begin, on behalf of Moonee Valley City Council, I would like to respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land - the Wurundjeri people of the Kulin Nation, their spirits, ancestors, elders and community members past and present.

In July this year, Council was lucky enough to see firsthand some of the wonderful work completed by the quilters as part of the Moonee Valley Quilt project.

This project brought together residents from all walks of life - Council, the quilters, the Aberfeldie Men’s Shed, and children from the Moonee Valley Festival.

Looking around me now, I see yet another great example of arts and crafts bringing the community together.

Thank you for inviting me to open this fantastic celebration of friendship, creativity and community. I hope you all enjoy your day and I look forward to seeing some of your wonderful creations.”
