Guest Speaker at Essendon Quilters ‘Showtime Quilt-In’.

It was an outstanding presentation by Neil Chisholm, as he shared his patchwork quilting  journey with everyone at the ‘Showtime Quilt-In’. Neil’s talk included his original designs for three period series of quilts - Jacobean, Japanese, and Regency. His preferred method is machine appliquĂ©, with either a satin stitch or blanket stitch. From his talk we learnt some valuable tips, including the importance of consistently practising free motion quilting, the use of Superior Bottom Line threads for both appliquĂ© and quilting, and the ‘2, 2, 2’ method of quilt design. When looking at a quilt, there needs to be something of interest when viewing it from 2 feet away (up close), then step back another 2 feet (middle distance), and then step back another 2 feet (long distance). Stitching, use of colour, and design, all work together to produce a quilt that meets the ‘2, 2, 2’ method of making an interesting and appealing quilt.

This is a selection of just some of the amazing work presented by Neil - for which we sincerely thank him for the opportunity to look at, and touch his quilts.
