President’s Patter: October 2018

The last month in retrospect!

We thoroughly enjoyed Christine Lethlean’s workshop. Her gracious personna and her ability to inspire and nurture self-expression were experienced by all.

At our day meeting, Kerry Roe shared her knowledge of thumb quilting along with beautiful examples of her work. Thank you, Kerry!

Our night meeting speaker was the very talented Linden Lancaster. I noticed audible gasps as each of Linden’s pictorial quilts were displayed. Later members enjoyed viewing Linden’s work at close range and received the benefit of her answers to design and construction queries.

Welcome to our new members – Jennifer Manefield, Gwen Van Duuren and Jennifer Wilton.

The Castlemaine retreat is happening next weekend. We wish all participants a relaxing, joyful and productive retreat.  A gentle reminder - Have you paid your membership?

Are you a financial member? Membership was due by October 1stand AGM voting rights require that your membership has been paid. Next year we celebrate 30 years  since establishment and  committee decided that as of the 2019 AGM, founding members will become Lifelong Members exempt from annual fees. (However, fees will be accepted if members wish to contribute).

A reminder that our AGM is on October 17th. The multi-talented Mariya Waters will be our guest speaker. All committee positions are declared vacant and it is a wonderful opportunity for “new blood” to contribute to the longevity of EQI and the promotion of our group’s goals. Please consider nominating. Many hands make light work. We need a new President as I have been in this position for two years with time served on the general committee prior. It is not an onerous position as the current committee keep wonderful records as to what needs to be done at different times of the year.

Our 2018 Quilt Show. Congratulations to Robyn Roberts as her zodiac inspired quilt was purchased by MV City Council for their Art Collection. It is certainly a positive way to promote EQI within MVCC.

There are many valued volunteers needed to keep EQI functioning. We desperately need an Evening Sit n Sew volunteer, to reduce the committee workload.

A previous EQI member, Bev Dunning,  donated 9 quilt tops and backing to the QFO group. Our new member, Marlene Bell, donated 4 tops as well.  We all may benefit by donating some tops to the QFO group and reduce our personal unfinished objects list. Thank you to Bev and Marlene for your generosity.

There will be a post Quilt Show evaluation meeting on Wednesday, October 24that 2 pm. Quilt show committee and meeting visitors will be allocated an evaluation sheet to complete and bring along to this Quilt Show evaluation in order to form the recommendations for the next Quilt Show committee. All members are welcome, of course.

Don’t forget that the November day meeting (21/11/2018) will be held at Sussex Neighbourhood House, 7 Prospect St., Pascoe Vale.(next to the Pascoe Vale Outdoor Pools).

“Finish it up in February” will be held on February 23rd, 2019 and the bus trip to the Vic Quilters Quilt-In at Blackburn will be on March, 16th. Keep those dates free!

Thank you to the EQI committee and members for your continued support, inspiration and shared joy in the wonders of this craft!

Happy Stitching!

Jan Stewart

Retiring President of EQI.
