President’s Patter: September 2018

Spring has sprung! It is very easy to appreciate the change of seasons while I’m enjoying the mid twenty degrees of the Sunshine Coast!

Well, what an eventful August we had! How splendid it was to see the hall filled with an enormous variety of quilt styles. Thank you to the members who contributed by either entering their quilts and offering their time to help to make this event the success that it was. There are too many to thank individually and be assured that your efforts were noticed by all! You know who you are! We had visitors from afar - Falls Creek, Cockatoo, Bendigo, and Cranbourne – to name a few!

On September 15th, members will be enjoying the workshop run by Christine Lethlean.

Our September day meeting speaker, Dianne Kinsey (a Quiltworx teacher) has had to cancel due to ill health. Dianne sends her apologies to members and we hope to see her next year.

Our September night meeting has Linden Lancaster as our guest speaker. Linden’s beautiful art quilts were displayed at Showcase, where she also won many awards. Now that the winter chills have left us, think about venturing out to this night meeting to experience Linden’s work.

The Paint Chip Challenge entries and statements were stated as due on 1/10/18. This has been amended to 24/10, the date of our October Evening Sit and Sew.

Our October day meeting is also the day of our AGM. We have the very talented Mariya Waters as the guest speaker on the day of our AGM, 17/10/18. A new committee will be elected at the AGM. All committee positions are declared vacant. Please think about how you can contribute to the existence, longevity, and promotion of our group’s goals.  October meetings are also the time to hand over the efforts of the QFO ladies to the fortunate recipients.

We thank Lorraine Carr for her skill sharing sessions during August, where Lorraine showed us a quick method of piecing triangles together.

At our September day meeting, Kerry Roe will present “thumb quilting techniques”.

Our Show & Tell focus for September is “Triangles”.

Our congratulations are extended to our member, Anna Bastiaan, her husband Hugh, daughter Elora and mother, Barbara Walker (member) on the arrival of twins – Jemima Deborah and Imogen Sophie on 16th August.

Enjoy your stitching!
