Greetings Everyone …

What a week it has been! Many parts of the country locking down but not Victoria. Promises about vaccines but still not enough according to the state Premiers and conflicting messages for those under 50 about which vaccine to have.
I’m fortunately not in that age group - not by a long shot! So I’m having my second AstraZeneca on Tuesday. How will I feel after that? Not sure. I think I will feel some small sense of relief in that then I’m supposed to be less likely to be hospitalised or worse. And presumably, I’ll be freer to travel, something I’ve almost forgotten how to do.

On Sunday I drove out to Montrose to donate 19 quilts to the sadly forgotten victims of last month’s storm. All this came about because Gayle who was our guest at the May meeting lives up in the Dandenongs. I sent a text asking if she was ok and received a heart-rending response telling me of the awful conditions which they were all in, two weeks after the event. She gave me a contact name for the quilts. This woman, Nia, has established a relief centre in Kalorama and it was she who drove down from the mountain to get the quilts. Nia said she had a 90-year-old woman who was having a birthday and now, along with a cake Nia had finally found, she would get a quilt as an extra birthday present. So thanks to all those wonderful stitchers who contributed in any part to making those 19 quilts. They are really, really appreciated.

I’m looking forward to the Machine Quilting workshop on July 17th. My machine quilting is fairly limited, stitch in the ditch being the first attempts with the occasional foray into something a bit more sophisticated, sometimes with disastrous results and much use of my quick unpick. There are still places available for this workshop.
Then after both the day and night meetings there will be a Saturday sit and sew or join it in July on the 31st.

You will need to bring a mask in your pocket for any upcoming meetings and, as usual, if conditions change so will our activities. Note the new dates for AQC and we are going to hold our bus trip later too.

We recently had a great donation of new cotton fabric, lots of it, very suitable for the backing of our QFOs. Come and join us on our QFO day, July 28th, the same day as our night meeting.
Looking forward to seeing you soon at one or all of our gatherings.
Heather
