Greetings to all members of EQI! …

by EQI President: Nadine B.

Hi all,

I started drafting this while sitting under a tree, looking out at the beach in Sanur, Bali. We first went to Bali over 30 years ago and stayed at the same resort. The gardens are even more beautiful today and as our room was at canopy level, we enjoyed sitting on the balcony watching the swallows and the occasional squirrel. I did manage to get a bit of applique done and thoroughly enjoyed a visit to a batik centre where I did some very controlled shopping!

Enough of my stories though. July was a busy month for EQI. Kerry kindly stepped in to present when our guest speaker was unable to attend. She followed up her presentation about Hawaiian quilting with a very well-attended needle turn applique Skill Share Session. When Kerry ran the session in the evening, she inspired a new member who had never done this before to go home and finish the heart Kerry had provided in the morning.

Barb and I were honoured to be present at the Vic Quilter’s Award Ceremony. EQI sponsored the prize for Excellence in Piecing which was won by Karen Terrens. Judy, one of our guest presenters in June also won awards for two of her quilts. The quilts at the Craft and Quilt show were amazing, I was overwhelmed by the number of them and the variety of styles and techniques on display.

Susan Smith will be our guest speaker at the August Day Meeting and we are sure to be in for a treat when we get to see her trunk show. Robyn will be running the Skill Sharing Session this month and will demonstrate the intriguingly titled “Manx Quilting”.

Applications to attend the Quilting with Rulers Workshop with Robyn on October 22 have opened already. This workshop will provide the opportunity to learn a new skill and foster the capacity to be lifelong learners (you can tell I was a teacher!).

To conclude, a reminder that we will hold our AGM for 2022 at the September Day Meeting. Holding the meeting then will help bring us in line with other groups. I am confident that the current committee will renominate as we have only been together as a group for a few months and we are really enthusiastic about rebuilding our community after years of lockdowns disrupted our meetings etc.

Looking forward to meeting again on the 17th (Day) and 24th (QFO and Evening)

Regards, Nadine Bond
