‘Glad Moon Rising’

In the midst of isolation & COVID, there is nothing like some bright fabrics. The FQs (fat quarters) were a surprise on Mother’s Day as we FaceTimed. Since then we have all found ways of staying connected. The regular EQI email always brings a smile during these challenging times. Thanks to everyone who has shared their quilts and works in progress, as well as the team, particularly Robyn who makes it happen.

The pattern called ‘Moonrise’ is from Emma Jean Jansen’s book ‘By the Bundle’. I made the block larger (5 cf 4 in. Fin.), and added blocks (33), keeping the proportion of background about the same. The decision to use a 5-inch template had its own challenges. I had one but worked out that the pie (convex, or hill), had a smaller radius than a 4 and a quarter-inch template. I located what I wanted after the most amusing conversation with the team at ‘Sewn and Quilted‘. Of course, I used the Pat S 3 pin method to stitch the blocks. I finished the top back in June.

Bad Moon Rising‘ - by Creedence Clearwater Revival from a long time ago - was featuring on the playlist as I stitched the curves. But the colours were glad not bad! ‘Glad Moon Rising’ finishes at 85 inches square. And, after a quilting marathon this week - 8 bobbins worth, it’s in time for Father’s Day. The recipient is the giver of the FQs.
