Leaders and Enders

I made this as a leader and ender during 2019. I had cut lots of blue squares out of my enormous collection and then I got stuck. In the end, I would pick out 50 squares, sort them into light and darks and stitch them together. One sewing day I was told I had enough squares together to make two quilts (and I do!) Under some pressure I found the background in the stash and it was stitched together quickly. I just kept using the light next to dark however sometimes the squares I pulled were ‘dark’ and I went with it as that is a random outcome.

It became a UFO when it was pin basted in January. Since then the cat’s slept on it, it’s been bundled into cupboards (isn’t that what you do with guilty secrets?) and moved more than once because it seemed always to be in the way.  About two weeks ago it got in the way yet again so it moved - right next to the machine!!!  It took three days to quilt and about half was done on the third day. It was finished one week after I started quilting. I did the binding in front of the fire and in the evenings. It’s now on our bed.

Pattern from ‘Scrap Therapy: Scraps Plus One’ by Joan Ford and there is a copy in the library. I did add a border of squares as it needed to be a little bigger and it used a lot more of those pesky squares. It is 80 inches square.
