Cushions and bunting

Denise S

Over the last month or so the creative clutter had descended into relatively ordered chaos. Piles of fabrics - leftovers, rejected etc - unloved blocks and works in progress on every horizontal surface in the sewing room. Time to put away, box up or, a happy thought, do some stitching and finishing off.

1. Half square triangles were leftover from gift making in 2018. Interestingly they were 4.5, 3.75 and 3.5 unfinished. After a little play and reference to ‘Spectacular Scraps’, by Judy Hooworth and Margaret Rolfe, I ended up with 3 potholders that will be in this year’s Santa Sack and a cushion.

2. Three Christmas cushions were pieced, quilted and trimmed in February this year. I wanted to get ahead for this year’s festive season and use some very old fabric such as the Debbie Mumm small panels. The backing and bindings were in one of those dreaded piles.

3. Four swags of Bunting. I also created the flags for Christmas bunting in February. I used an advent Panel for the fronts and ‘remaindered’ layer cake pieces. All I needed to do was attach them to leftover Jelly Roll strips. I think they will brighten our front verandah during December.

As to the report card on the Sewing Room: There has been a steady and continual improvement. Provided Denise continues this effort there will be pleasing results.

It’s great that our 14-day average is below 50. Thanks to everyone for doing your part and stay safe. Please enjoy your stitching and share whatever is keeping you busy.

Regards
