Memories of fabric shopping in Ohio …

by EQI Member: Denise S.

It’s a lovely Saturday morning and I hope everyone continues to enjoy their stitching, stay in touch with their families and friends but most of all that they are safe and well. The benefits of an unexpected call are just terrific. My latest ‘finish’ started in lockdown 5!

I had the best day travelling around Berlin, Ohio with our friends Ginny and Chuck three years ago. And of course, there were stops at shops run by the Amish. Naturally, I purchased fabric.

It took me a long time to find a pattern that felt right. I was researching Amish quilts when I  discovered ‘Blanket Statements’, a quilt design group from Canada’s Pacific North West. Those Facebook algorithms are sometimes useful even though time-wasting. This pattern is called ‘Arboreal Forests’. I made the ‘baby’ quilt size - about 37 by 48 inches. The late afternoon sunlight makes the colours really pop.

I’ve got to thank Tranquillity as I was thinking dark grey for sashings and frames. It was ‘in person’ shopping between lockdowns. The blue looks a treat. It will be a while before I get this one quilted as nothing in my stash is quite right.
