Triangles in the stash! …
Robyn R
The never-ending stash revealed a box with a pile of pre-sewn triangles from strip pieced fabric. Had a label ‘On the Double’. Evidence of another ‘what was I thinking?’
No notes were in the tub to remind me of what it was meant to be, but they seemed to be stacked in groups of four so there must have been a plan at some stage. The label sent me looking through the bookshelves for a clue - found it!
‘Quilts on the Double’ by Judy Hooworth and Margaret Rolfe (yes, we have it in our Library)
Unfortunately, when looking through the book I couldn’t remember which pattern it was supposed to be, and there wasn’t enough of them for any of the patterns. As there were no other fabrics in the box to give a clue I thought ‘what the heck’ and just sewed them together in blocks. Spent a frustrating couple of days on the floor moving them around to come up with a small quilt top - but they refused to play nicely together, no matter which way placed! Kept getting two leftover triangles (different each time), that were out of place. Finally decided on a layout and have called it ‘Odd One Out’.
Oh no! Flipping back through the book, it twigged there were two patterns it could have meant to be! I had been trying to make it look like a picture in the Gallery, instead, it was a pattern - I just sewed the blocks wrong way round!
Which lesson should it be - finish the top when you start it, or, make sure the label has better notes for later? What do you think?
Stay safe, keep on stitching.

It looks fabulous and I love the pinks. Good job Robyn
Finish the quilt, Robyn. You can always make another.
The pattern and colours are very effective.
it matters not what you were thinking when it went into a box – but what you think when you finish it. It is just lovely.
And we also have Judy Hooworth and Margaret Rolf’s other book!
