There’s no such thing as too many UFO’s … just not enough time!

Robyn R

Back in February, I began a Quilt-Along with Meadowside Designs (Connecting Thread eNews #196 ‘Button Bits’). Well, life has a habit of sometimes getting in the way, or is it that as a patchwork quilter there are too many projects on the go at the same time? Okay at last count - too many, but what the heck - starting something new is always fun! So for a bit of catch-up about that project - thanks to a lockdown!

What I chose to do was to use up some left-over fabrics from yet another UFO, use the quilt-as-you-go technique and combine ruler quilting with free-motion work. Putting the large-sized traditional blocks together is only half the task as planning and stitching the quilting can take as much, or if not, a longer time than the patchwork.

Here’s Block 1 -  ‘Clay’s Choice’

It’s made twice, placing patches of lights, mediums and darks (plus background), in different places. Add a wide border to allow for quilting shrinkage and cutting back to the final size.

The quilting plan.

Did anyone else have a go at this? ….

Has lockdown last year or this year prompted you to do an online quilt along? Share with us your project, or share with us your social media so we can follow it there too.

This was originally posted to Instagram. If you have an Instagram account remember to add the hashtag #essendonquilters to your patchwork quilting posts. That way we can see your creations.

Next time Block 2.

Cheers
