Did you wear any? …
A non-patchwork friend commissioned the quilting of an elderly relative’s re-discovered hexagon patchwork. Lo and behold, it’s vintage 1970’s fabrics - some I even recognised! Lots of polyesters and woven clothing fabrics but the overall effect is eyecatching.
It was cut into 3 pieces to be used as floor rugs for the much-anticipated arrival of the long-awaited grandchildren.
It came with papers pulled out by ‘helpful kids’ - basting threads left dangling all over, the stitching stretched and tiny torn shreds of paper tucked in corners.
Just prepping took quite a few evening TV watching hours whilst thinking about how to keep it together. Ended up using a light woven iron-on interfacing on the back to hold the hexagons together (knowing it’ll be put in the washing machine), then using a quilting pattern to cross every seam.
Piece 1 has walking foot cross-hatching; Piece 2 has an allover ruler quilting of an echoed-meander, and the third has ruler quilting of a circle in each hexagon that holds down all the seams. I don’t think they’ll come adrift before the babies turn 21!

Well done, Robyn. Your “antique” quilt looks great.
Well done Robyn
Great job Robyn 🦋
Wow! Lots of effort involved in stabilising the different fabrics. A wonderful effort!
